Gmina Kornowac leží v jihozápadní části Slezského vojvodství na Slezské vysočině v západní části Rybnické plošiny. Území gminy je charakteristické velkou rozmanitostí terénu, rozdíly výšky místy dosahují 100 m. Malý fragment gminy, část nejvíce vysunutá na jih, je součástí Ratibořské kotliny, která je součástí Slezské nížiny. Kornowac se částečně nachází v obklopení chráněné krajinné oblasti „Cisterciácké krajinné kompozice Rudy Wielkie”. Region, ve kterém se nachází gmina, náleží do nejčistějších ve Slezském vojvodství.
Kornowac má velmi výhodnou komunikační polohu, jeho centrem vede vojvodská silnice č. 935 spojující města Ratiboř a Rybnik.
Celá gmina se rozkládá na ploše 26,3 km2 a žije v ní 5080 obyvatel.
Poloha Gminy Kornowac nad údolím „Dolina Odry”, ve výši do 100 m nad údolím znamená, že většina vesnic má mnoho „vyhlídkových” míst, která mohou návštěvníka uchvátit malebností své lokalizace. Avšak jednoznačně nejkrásnější vyhlídky můžeme obdivovat na dvou místech: Kobyla a Pogrzebień. Z prvního místa je krásný výhled na Ratiboř a jeho západní a severní okolí, s łubowickým návrším a s Horou sv. Anny. V Pogrzebieni se rozprostírá výhled na panorama údolí Odry s cisterciáckými rybníky „Wielikąt” na pozadí Beskyd s Lysou horou (1323 m n.m.) v České republice na jedné straně a s pásmem Jeseníků s Pradědem (1491 m n.m.) a Opavskou pahorkatinou také v České republice na straně druhé. Při pohledu jihovýchodním směrem se ukážou malebná údolíčka Rybnické plošiny, komplex syryńských lesů a dále pak silně hornickou činností poznamenaná vyvýšení u Pszowa a „slezské pyramidy” – hornické haldy.
Všechny tyto přednosti umožnily nazývat Gminu Kornowac označením „gmina s vyhlídkami”.
