Státní přírodní rezervace byla ustanovena v roce 1969 – je zde především habrodubový porost s výskytem buků a najdeme zde také mnoho vzácných druhů flóry. Rozloha rezervace je 33 ha. Rezervace leží v lehce zvlněném terénu, proto je vynikajícím místem pro procházky. Území rezervace najdeme vpravo od silnice spojující vesnice Vřesina a Píšť. Prvotní majitelé zdejšího území zde přikázali vysadit takzvané hraniční duby a některé z nich přetrvaly až do dnešních dnů. Jedním z nich je také Dub Mechtildy, čili „Mechtilden Eiche”, v jehož blízkosti je bludný kámen ze skandinávské ruly.
